Stock Solinoid Question?
repost: Solinoid question?
I've been looking to install a 500 amp controller for a little while. Luck would have it I found a used FSIP 500 in Craigs List and picked it up for $250. Got lucky again because it works. It was manufactured in March 2010. My 25" super swamper's really suck up the juice but now it jerks my head back and will jump out of a hole and the cart does 19 on the flat. My only concern is I still have the stock solenoid. It's not that hot, running it hard for 10mins. My question is, is the stock solinoid holding me back? I think it's only rated for 200 amp.All my wiring is 2 guage. Thank's for all the help guy's. Steve |

Re: Stock Solinoid Question?
The manufactures recommend a 200 amp solenoid (800 peak)with that control because it can draw 600 amps peak. That is enough amperage to weld up your 60-75 amp stock solenoid.
Now ~ with the addition of #2g cables and an aftermarket motor you should probably be using a 400/1000 amp super duty solenoid. If it isn't holding you back it is just a matter of time before it becomes a point of restriction and melts. Of course this just opinion and theory, because I have never tried to run a 500 amp control and 2g cables with a 60a solenoid ? |

Re: Stock Solinoid Question?
Scotty,
Thanks for the reply, I'm going to get one next week from a local guy. What part of So Cal are you from? I'm orig from Loomis Ca above Sac and my wifes from Victorville Ca. We miss friends and family still living in Ca. You can't get any good pizza or mexican food in the South. We have been gone for about 15 yrs. There are some cheap used carts out here, a friend of mine picked up a 01 EZ GO for $500 and is still using the same batterys that came with it for the last 6 months. Steve |
