Default 3.75 hp motor, 275 Amp Curtis contr. = tire size?

I have a 96 CC 48 volt with the 3.75 hp motor and the Curtis 275 amp controller. I am planning a lift and tire change. I really can't afford to upgrade the motor and controller. Any experiences with tire size on this set up would be appreciated. I am adding the lift really just for ground clearance for crossing some small creeks where we ride. I just don't want to lose too much torque.

The tire you select will determine how much torque you will loose.
A stock tire is 18" diameter X 3.14 = 56.52" around this is the distance traveled in each revolution.
20"x3.14 = 62.8 or 20% more distance traveled per rotation.
22" tire x 3.14 = 69.08 or about 35% increase in distance.....

how this works out mathematically to actual torque losses, I dunno? I doubt it is straight across, but my guess is you will loose 20-25% of your torque with a 35% increase in tire size.

O hope this helps and I'm interested to hear what others have to say on this subject.

I agree with the above and will add that with larger tires, your controller probably won't cut it so plan on one of those as well.
