Default F&R switch overheating

My 1998 club car 48volt is all of a sudden overheating the F&R switch. I have owned the cart for 8 years and am on the 3rd set of Batterys. I replaced a micro switch in December. I believe the cart has a upgraded motor. The plastic around one of the contacts is melting and the blue wire is to hot to touch. Is it possible I just need a new switch? or could there be another problem? Thanks for any help.
