PlumQuick Motor Upgrade: Real World Results / Comparison
All - I recently went through a PlumQuick motor upgrade process and wanted to share my results.
Here is my set up: 08 Club Car Precedent, 12" Wheels, No Lift Kit, Stock Controller Environment: Mainly Flat, Gated, Residential Neighborhood, Speed limit 23 MPH. Stock: I was doing basically 19 mph. Bandit ($355): Basically got me to 23 MPH. About what is advertised in terms of speed but I didn't really feel a big difference in torque. Also, I would note that the 23 MPH, was under pretty perfect conditions, solid charge, minimal wind, etc. Cost for this set up was $355 ($225 + $100 Core + $30 Shipping) I really wanted to get the cart to the point where I could get a predicable MPH, largely to keep pace with traffic in all conditions but also to have a little extra MPH if needed. The options from PQ, were to add a 500 AMP controller (~$550) + 4G Cables (~$150) or to go with the Executioner $630 ($590 + Shipping), new Cables ($150) and my stock controller. Bandit + Controller + Cables ($355 + $550 + $150 =$1,055). According to PQ, this setup would get me more torque + but have a minimal impact on the MPH Executioner ($630): After some confusion from the guy at PlumQuick, we determined that the Executioner DID NOT need a new controller. Costly for me as I would have gone this route the first time, if he would have given me the correct information before I bought the Bandit. That said, I bought the Executioner and installed it last week. From my stock set up, this took the cart from 19 MPH to 30 MPH. Obviously a major increase in speed. In terms of torque, it’s hard to quantify but definitely a noticeable increase. |

30 MPH is nice, isn't it? I have a similar setup, but with different motor. I'm adding the DCX500IQ as soon as I can. I want torque now |

no, I couldn't get them to respond in a timely manner to exchanging it so i just sucked it up and ordered the executioner on its own. if anyone wants a Bandit, used only 3 days, $225 Shipped, no core exchange required.
30 MPH is a good top end speed for me, I won't use it that much but its nice to have it to draw on. |

The PlumQuick Purple Bandit will fit your cart with no problems Just make sure you follow the following when you're ready to install it: Put Tow/Run switch in Tow position. Locate and remove main negative lead from battery pack. Locate and remove main positive lead from battery pack. Make sure you write down where the 4 wires go that are currently on your motor. (could take picture to be sure) Remove 4 wires on your current motor using 2 wrenches to make sure you don't spin contact terminals. Remove 3 bolts, 7/16" socket, going from your motor to your case. Remove 1 bolt, 1/2" socket, from motor hold down bracket. Pull out old motor, being careful of its weight when it will drop, around 50 pounds. (If old motor is stuck use rubber mallet on end of motor case and hit back of motor TOWARDS axle case to help loosen.) Clean up inside of axle case and lightly lube shaft with a moly-teflon lubricant, (I use green marine grease.) Put new motor on shaft and slide to case. (MAKE SURE motor is flush with case before bolting to case!) Replace all bolts, do not over torque them. Replace all wires back to original position using 2 wrenches to make sure you don't spin contact terminals, open end wrench on bottom nut held tight to prevent movement. Replace positive lead back to battery pack. Replace negative lead back to battery pack. Put Tow/Run switch back to run. Get in your cart, hit the pedal a couple of times testing drive and reverse and your done. |
