Default Precedent SOC ~ digital meter install

First find yourself a like candidate ....
I found this fancy little 06 Precedent dead again, even though I put batteries in it just 3 months ago... My hand-held meter said the whole pack had 23 volts
That's hard on a pack. As it sat there waiting for help the plates were sulfating. Sulfer was attaching itself to the lead plates, forming a hard crust that would diminish the battery's capacity.... slightly forever.
The cart is an AC drive with 4/12volt US Battery units. The cart is fast & it draws heavily on the small (4 battery) pack. This isn't the first time the cart has been run down too low..... the old batteries only lasted 3 years
It has an LED meter with a series of red to green lights, but more than one person uses it and it's easy to ignore the lights as long as it runs..... So today the Digital meter went in.

I have had some members ask if they can put the meter in an CC or Precedent or something other than the Ezgo.... so I thought to photo the process...

I knew this wasn't going to be all fun because of the Carbon fiber dash installed over the stock dash..... first pick a suitable location.
I made sure my choice had the 3 things needed for a good location...
Good visibility
Reasonable access
Plausible wire routes

We have had a lot of charging questions with the cart from the customer so I chose to hard wire the meter to the pack so that the pack & the charging cycle could be checked at a glance ...

I got my pointy silver marker and traced around the meter while holding it firmly in place.
The marker works good on any hard surface and a pen works well on anything else.
I use the fat marker lines as a gauge when I am filing towards the final fit.

A sharp 3/16 drill put a hole inside each corner and new 24 teeth per inch hacksaw blade ground to a point was my saw.
Notice my holes and cuts are well inside the edge of the line I traced around the meter. There is not much room for error. The meter has a small lip around the outside. So error on the side of caution, I had to file a lot but the install was clean....

Next clean up the hole with a good (newer aka sharp) metal file of appropriate size.... this one is 3/4" wide... it was a good fit for 3/4 x 1.25 hole
As I said file each side until you get close to the line.... then test fit, test the width then the height by tilting the meter and using one edge to test with.... keep filing & keep testing .... I must have test fitted 20 times just to be sure I would sneak up on a good fit...
And not buy this guy a new dash

After the hole was finished I wiped the marker off with some cleaner.... & ran a pair of 18g wires to the battery pack mains. I went thru the fire wall with wires & an adhesive sealer under the cart I found a secure and reasonably safe route for the golf course use this cart sees...
Remember to slip the retainer over the wires BEFORE you attach the meter.
The meter has reverse polarity protection in case you can't read the + and - signs on the label
Soon it looked nearly finished
