The charger brings the battery pack up to between 44 and 46 volts for a 36v system... when it shuts off the charge begins to settle to what the batteries can actually hold.... this settling takes 12 to 24 hours.
Your 40v reading could be normal

ScottyB, Just ordered a meter for my 06 Precedent. What are the advantages or disadvantages to wiring the meter to the keyswitch versus to the batteries.

. . . personal preference . . . keyswitch turns it off when not in use . . batteries provide constant readout . . . battery drain is miniscule . . .

Steve, Thanks for the feedback, I think I will just hook up to the batteries then.
Jimbo the brand I bought is the one ScottyB is selling, based on feedback in this post, it is well worth it and accurate, which is a nice thing.

I have been thinking of getting one of these, it looks like there is not much "bezel" on it, making it pretty unforgiving on the exact hole size. can anyone confirm this?

Ok, in "edit" I just read through this entire thread, looks like he has some bezels on the website, anyone got a pic of one installed in an aftermarket carbon fiber dash?

You are right, the meter itself has about a 1-2 mm bezel; very unforgiving!
That is why Scotty started making metal trim pieces. I have the rectangle metal one on my cart with factory dash and I like it.
