48V DS, solenoid wont activate ?
I have a 96 48V I picked up and i'm trying to get it running but the solenoid wont engage? Battery pack is a lil over 51 volts and all cables are good. I did install a new solenoid and it doesn't work either. I can jump across it with a screwdriver and the cart does run so its not a mcor or controller problem. I know it has to just be something simple in the wiring but its been a long time since I have messed with a 48V like this and cant pinpoint the problem......
I am getting battery voltage to the small wires on the solenoid when the pedal is pressed and on the main posts, but when the pedal is pressed the voltage drops out on the controller side of it. Any ideas ? |

The control side is the negative side... and the switching side? ( you need to confirm this) If the + side is the switching side then you can run the - side straight to the battery main - without harm.
If the - side is the switch side and you do this the solenoid will be energized all the time and will burn out soon. |

Ok, I think I follow you, I'll try to run a neg. wire to it and see if it clicks. It has the black allbrighton solenoid on it with the diode built in to it , don't know if that changes anything?

Re: 48V DS, solenoid wont activate ?
The positive side is the switching side. It sounds like a bad on-board computer to me.. Take a jumper wire and hook it to the main negative battery post OR the B- post of the controller (same wire) and hook the other side to the solenoid where the SMALL yellow wire is located. If the car runs, you'll need to replace the on board computer. The part number for this OBC is a 101800606

Re: 48V DS, solenoid wont activate ?
OK all this stuff is starting to come back to me now........
Its been about 4 yrs. since I have touched a cart like this, thanks for the help guys. The neg. wire to the solenoid fixed the problem. I'm not really wanting to spend the money for a new obc so will it be ok to just leave this wire on it permanent ? I picked up this cart for $650 and its just gonna be something to mess around with in the woods behind my house, after a 8" lift and tires ...... |

Re: 48V DS, solenoid wont activate ?
As long as the car will charge it will be fine.... The OBC has two functions on that model car... One, to provide charger control. Two, to provide a ground to the solenoid switch only when the car is un-plugged. Keep in mind that the car will take off while charging if you leave it bypassed. Otherwise, it's fine. Glad it's working! I had a feeling that's what it was!
