1997 regen club car upgrades
Hi all. I am new here and new to the addiction.
I just picked up a new to me cart. It is a 1997 club car. It is a regen as it has the toggle switch. Not sure if it is a regen 1 or 2 though. The car seems to be in pretty good shape tops out at about 13 mph and has 2 year old trogan batteries not sure which ones though. I wanted to start to slowly upgrade the cart. I really dont want or need more speed at this point because it will be used mostly by my young kids around the yard. But I do need a little more torque to get up the big hill on my street for when we putt around the neighborhood. What I was wondering was would a cable upgrade be enough at this time to give it a little more power up the hill. I want to upgrade the cart as my kids get older so I know I will be doing more in the future. So I want to keep that in mind. I think a 400 or 500 amp controller and hd solenoid, better brakes and some type of new motor is in the very distant future. And what ever else you guys may suggest. I have read a ton of threads about upgrades but non really seem to give the benefits of a 2 or 4 gauge wire upgrade only. Thanks in advance for your time. And curse you for making me spend all my **** money I have already ordered seat belts and a new steering wheel for this thing. |

Thanks.
I know this is a dumb question but where exactly is the controller located? Can I see it without taking anything apart? |

Thanks again you guys are invaluable.
I have the rear seats on my cart will that get in the way of that access panel? If I have the black one. What does that mean there is nothing I can do to upgrade this cart? |

The two screws for removing the motor access panel are located in the bag well under the rear seat . . it will slide out/lift off after removing screws. You should be able to see the controller once removed. As for the black controller, I will let someone else address that . . .

Re: 1997 regen club car upgrades
Well I checked the cart and I do have the dreaded black box. Although I probably didn't need to check. I should have known as Mr Murphy has a permanent residence at my house. I guess it is my fault for not doing my research prior to buying.
Oh well. With that said what are my options with this cart? I know they are limited but I am having a hard finding out exactly what they are. Can I just upgrade the whole controller? Or will it have to be the whole cart? Just need to plan out the future with this cart so I don't spend money only to have to get a new one later. As for right now the cart is perfect for teaching my kids on. But I am guessing that by the next year or so they will get bored with it in its current state. |

Re: 1997 regen club car upgrades
your gonna have to do some research i,m not 100% positive but i don,t think you can just throw an aftermarket controller on that cart.....it is just a little different than the rest of them and calls for different parts than its counterpart with the silver controller....that cart was sorta an experiment so to speak ( i also have one ) your gonna hear alot from people that they are the same as the others ( not true i,ve been there ) not a lot of people even know about them.........your things like cables, solenoids, some switches yes you can just replace and or upgrade trouble comes in with controller and speed system .............your speed system which should be a pot box is gonna be backwards from what they sell.......i don,t beleive they sell any of the speed system parts for it any longer..........talk with david ( tahoedawg ) if anyone knows about them he should...........its not a bad cart at all they are great carts until things start to go bad thats when they become lets say less than desireable..............my advice is do as much research as possible and don,t take any answers that are less than 100% as i said been there done that.............good luck with it............................

Re: 1997 regen club car upgrades
Thanks for the reply.
I will try to do my home work on this So far these 3 kits seem like at least one solution. speed kit http://www.buggiesunlimited.com/prod...TQ%20CC2%20SKA speed and torgue kit http://www.buggiesunlimited.com/prod...Q%20CC2%20STKA I wonder if scottyb can put the pieces together for a conversion and ho much that would cost? I like his work better? I will try to update this thread with other options so that others with this type of cart may have some direction. Please comment on the good and bad of these. Thanks again. |
