Default New to the electric cart world.....

Just purchased my first electric cart. 04 CC Precedent. Wanted one of these so bad drove 700mi and 10.5hr round trip to get one. It has 08 batteries that seem to last quite a long time, and all batteries check out good. I know I am most likely going to have to replace them sooner than later but what are the best things to do during the "winter" months when the cart isn't being driven and just stored in the garage? Can it be left on the charger all winter since I have an automatic charger (as long as the water levels are checked regularly)? This cart goes 14mph on flat ground stock. Is that normal speed or should it go faster? I am also looking into the Speedylink. Does anyone have one on their cart? How does it work?

Sorry for all the questions, but just want to use these batteries as long as possible and want this thing to go as fast as possible as well.

Thanks in advance for the answers/suggestions!

I just purchased the speedy link myself I have not got it installed on the cart yet, but I did a post asking the same question and several people recommended it so I bought one I will report back later when I get it installed.

Welcome to the world of carts! Word of advice, leave this forum and don't ever look back!!!!! We will have you spending your kids college fund! 14mph is about speed code 2 for the precedent. I had mine set on code 4 and it runs 19.6mph. Never used the speedy link. It is best to keep your batteries charged up there in your cold winters. It will be fine to leave it plugged up if everything is working right. As you said, just check the cells every couple of weeks.

Welcome, If your garage is heated you will have time get the cart all ready for spring in 9 months. Get a nice lift kit, 10-12" wheels, 20-23" tires, light kit, faster motor, new controller, HP solenoid, 4-2 gage wires, rear seat, dash, voltage meter, cool-looking seat covers and a part-time job to pay for all that stuff!

Once the charger turns off it will not turn back on unless you unplug and plug back in.

Being that you will be keeping the Precedent in the garage where you will see it pretty much every day, just plug it into the charger every 2 weeks or so and let the charger run it's cycle and then unplug it. Check water levels after the charge cycle and only use distilled water to replenish the levels as needed. Some people leave charger plugged into car continuously and some people don't . . . matter of preference . . .

OBC is supposed to monitor charger status while plugged in and turn it on "allegedly" every 2 weeks or so to run charge cycle . . .

Welcome; I too am new to the electric cart world. I recently snagged a Western Viper Golf Car. It needs a lot of work, but it was free. I've only seen a couple of photos of them on the web. Good luck with your cart and keep us informed on how it progresses.

I believe that for the price of a speedy link, you can get a club car dealer to re program your speed control to number 4 which will get you about 19 miles per hour. I think I would go that route rather than the speedy link. Mine is at 4 and it moves plenty fast for my needs.
