Default Re: HOW TO INCERT #2 wire thru the ON BOARD COMPUTER

Good morning, Bruce.

I don't care if you run on this on your cart but the BGW members need to know a few things about this thread and your postings. (I do this with the intent of helping others who may otherwise be overwhelmed by your immense electrical knowledge of 50 yrs)

1. I am pretty certain the cable shown is not manufactured for use with high amperage DC drive systems. It looks like it is an AC cable designed for use with high voltage & low amperage current.

2. You can not strip the coating from a cable or wire and put it back on and expect to maintain the protective integrity of the jacket as intended especially in an environment where the air itself is acidic. As occurs during the gassing of charged wet cell batteries.

3. It is not necessary to strip #2 welding cable to fit it through the CC OBC. It fits intact.

4. In our State, it is illegal to be in possession of public utility copper wire due to the high salvage value & frequent theft of the material. I know of people who have been arrested at the salvage scales. Check your state laws.

5. This would not be a sticky if it was the only thread on BGFW.

1. I am pretty certain EVENTHOUGH the cable in not in your possession--you are CERTAIN.....the cable shown is not manufactured for use with high amperage DC drive systems. It looks like it is an AC cable designed for use with high voltage & low amperage current.

2. You can not strip the coating from a cable or wire and put it back on and expect to maintain the protective integrity of the jacket as intended especially in an environment where the air itself is acidic. you can if the tape used is rubber tape--already taken into consideration ....As occurs during the gassing of charged wet cell batteries.

3. It is not necessary to strip #2 welding cable to fit it through the CC OBC. It fits intact.

4. In our State, it is illegal to be in possession of public utility copper wire due to the high salvage value & frequent theft of the material. I know of people who have been arrested at the salvage scales. Check your state laws.
this was disgarded wire and was allowed to be taken

5. This would not be a sticky if it was the only thread on BGFW.
scotty ---do you want a sample or not....cause you really can't comment until you have the wire in your hand..and then you may critique me all you like

Bruce, I'm pretty sure the part about removing the insulation and installing it again covers the qualifications required for critiquing your procedure. I/we cannot recommend this simply from a safety standpoint. I know it, you know it. Or at least you should with fifty years in the trade.

FB, I was simply trying to lead you to the conclusion that everyone has already made. Even if you were to send pieces of this cable to everyone who asked and paid the postage, how long will it take for me to recieve it? I can pick up 2ga welding cable on the way home today.
While this method and material may work for you, it will not for 99% of the other members. (and honestly, I could not reccomend it to anyone)
1) the material is not widely available.
2) 2ga welding cable works well and is easily done the proper way. And it's widely available.
3) You CAN NOT remove the insulation from any cable/wire and not compromise it's designed integrity.
4) If you're going attempt to make fun of someones ability to read, you damnwell better be spelling correctly!

Several have tried to make these points and YOU attacked them.

I will be doing this mod to my neighbors cart but, I will be doing it with 2ga welding cable that I will leave the insulation intact and route it the right way through the OBC.
There is a differance between "hearing" and "listening".

Once again, this Public Utility Cable is not readily available to the general public and therefore should be a moot point in it's application for golf cart rewiring . . . I now abandon this silly thread . . .
