Charger tripping after battery change

I installed 4 new 12 volt batteries in my 2007 club car precedent today. When attaching the charger, the reset on the charger trips after a few seconds. I forgot to turn the switch to tow before disconnecting or connecting the batteries. Do I need to reset anything or is it something else.

It sounds like you hooked up a battery wrong or you damaged the OBC by not switching to tow. Hopefully it's the battery configuration.

You need to put it in tow and check that all the batteries are connected correctly and securely. Get you meter and check your pack voltage. New batts should be about 49 volts +/-. You shouldn't drive your cart without charging those batteries first. If the batteries are connected correct and you are getting proper voltage from the pack, then you may have an OBC issue. Read the stickies on OBC reset and battery care. Post back your findings. Good luck!

welcome, if everything was ok pryor to swapping batteries you mis-cabled it ( very easy to do ) you need to see what you did and you might want to get a wiring diagram for that...............also cross your fingers about your controller that you didn,t ruin it by not putting the cart in tow befor changing them..............................

Batteries were installed correctly and voltage reading was 48.6. I know I did not flip the run/tow switch to tow when disconnecting and connecting. Currently the cart runs fine. When I connect the charger the reset trips within a couple of seconds.

I went through the process of resetting the OBC. After disconnecting the (-), the process states to flip the F/R to reverse. The process states that the reverse buzzer will buzz for about 30 seconds then go off. The reverse buzzer is not making a noise when the batteries are disconnected. (The reverse buzzer does work when batteries are connected. ( Could it be that I damaged the capacitor) Is the capacitor a separate part? Is there any other test I can run. It looks like a Curtis OBC. I am currently charging the batteries independently. What is a safe amperage to charge each Trojan (1260) battery.

not putting it in tow should not do anything to charger it takes out the controller if anything so if your cart is running no worries................it is really odd that everything worked fine and now charger is tripping, i wouldn,t worry about the capacitor i would test the heatsink and diodes.........when one of the diodes goes that what charger starts doing..............if you replace heatsink and diode get a breaker also as once they trip a few times they become weak and trip even more...............you can test the diodes with a digital voltage meter............................

Is is possible it could be a bad breaker or rectifier in the charger? Maybe just a coincidence

48.6V is almost 50% discharged! Your charger may be overloaded. Try charging each battery for an hour with an automotive charger and then try your cart charger again. I've had chargers " kick the breaker " when trying to charge a nearly dead pack.

Will charge each battery independently. What is a safe amperage to charge each battery

The buzzer will not sound on a precedent, at least on mine and others it won't sound. Funny, when I put new batts in, my charger also tripped during the last phase of charging. It's been fine since and only tripped that one time. Do what the others are saying and try to snag another charger and see what happens. Good luck..
