Default CC Precedent Charger issue

I have mentioned before my ongoing problem with 1 of the 4 batteries that won't do a full charge. I have been working on it to de-sulfate that battery as well as 1 other one. These are May-2010 batteries so no one would expect that would not be good.

Anyway, my issue today is the Charger. Everytime I use the cart for 18 holes of golf (it does run fine) and plug it in for a full charge, the charger starts up immediately at MAX amps (needle is pegged to the right) and runs for about 30 seconds. Then it shuts of for about 5 seconds and comes back on again at full charge. The total charge takes about 10 hours. The batteries started out at; 12.30, 12.00,12.16, 12.14. Now a little while after the charge they read; 13.03, 12.67, 13.00, 12.81. When I have measured the batteries in the morning,..typically they read; 12.70, 12.40, 12.53, 12.56. All of the batteries show a significant amount of sulfate on the plates. My real question is,..."Is there a problem with my charger"

Hey trigger1937, I had Supreme 130amp/hr cheapies in my 2005 Precedent for 2 years....they were only fine for 12mths., then very slowly deteriorated...

They went from Nov. 2010 50.9v on a regular charge down to 49.1v after golf...on 11.29.10 I charged them to 50.8v and then for some reason put the charger on again and it resulted in Before Golf 51.9v and 48.7v After Golf...by June those figures had dropped to BG 50.8v and AG 48.5v AG...my first sign of a 'real' problem was the l/h/s rear battery was always just 0.2v below the rest...by June the pack was 50.4v and 48.9v AGolf and in Sept. 50.0v and 47.5v then in Oct. the suspect returned 11.1v AGolf....the pack charged up to 50.1v then AG 47.0v....the suspect was now not using water in one cell....l knew he had died

I hope this gives you an insight to how they slowly come down...l kept fairly comprehensive track of charges and individual batteries. I play golf 3 times a week every week but that is all the cart does...charged after every round.

My final solution was to convert....Almost free 12v-8v Precedent conversion

FWIW the extra amp/hrs in the 6x8v is a whole lot of extra peace of mind for basically no extra cost.

OK,...Thanks for reassuring me on the Charger. I remember the charger for my 1996 CC and I have the loan of a 2001 CC while I work on mine. That is a PowerGlide 2 charger and when it comes on to charge it stays on until the charge is over. That cart has 1 year old Trojan 8volt and after use it will charge in 4 to 5 hours.
