battery charger time
total newbie here - bought my first golf cart today - a used Club Car - not sure of the model other than the serial number is BA0217 - it's a 2002 model year. 6 batteries labeld 8volts each - powerdrive2 charger.
The red line battery level light on the dashboard was all the way to the right at first. Played 9 holes and it's down almost but not quite half way. Hooked up the charger and it reads about 12 amps or so. It's been charging for 2 1/2 hours now and the indicator red line light hasn't moved. Is this norma? How long does it normally take to fully charge. Batteries are suppose to be about 1 1/2 to 2 years old. No manual but not sure if I really need one. Also there is a small button on the left side next to the brake pedal about 4-5 inches to the left - looks like a button switch of somekind which you would press with your foot. What's that for? Thanks in advance. Jack |

Re: battery charger time
Welcome to bgw.
5-8 hours is about average for recharging Check your water levels and fill just above the separator plate but not up the solid well. See pic below OH, the small button on the floor is the horn. |

Re: battery charger time
thanks! - I guess the horn doesn't work so that's why I couldn't figure out what it was for.
So - should I be worried that after almost 3 hours the battery indicator hasn't moved? Still in the middle of the display. Does the charger automatically turn off then? thanks so much for you earlier quick reply! Jack |

Re: battery charger time
I wouldn't worry about the battery indicator, It should be an automatic charger, just let it do its thing. It will turn off by itself once its charged. If it goes over twelve hours you might have some an issue.

Re: battery charger time
If it is the Curtis type with a bunch of little bars it should reset when the pack reaches the peak voltage near the auto shut off point for the charger.... Not a problem until morning and its still on 50%.

Re: battery charger time
it's labeled "Battery Condition" - just has a lit up red vertical bar now in the middle. At the top of the display it has a gauge meter bar or whatever - a white line which gets wider towards the right side which signifies full charge I gas

Re: battery charger time
Your serial number indicates a "Chassis Only Indio Electric (Electronic Controller)" . . . interesting . . .

Re: battery charger time
your charger will run up to 16 hours before it shuts off but you must let it do a complete charge before you unplug it if you want the most out of your battery pack.....................as long as everything is ok and its not fry an egg hot just leave it do its thing....................................
