Club Car Pot Specs & Operation
I have a 2000 Carryall 2 with a defective pot that reads the circuit is open. I removed the pot box from the cart and found that the box is open on the back side and just serves as a mount for pot and the micro switch. The pot is made by BI Technologies model #6187-153A.
The existing pot turns 340 degrees stop to stop and I assume it is linear. The accelerator lever will only rotate the pot about 90 degrees so since it is a 5k pot the Club Car is only using about 25% of the resistance range. That is about 1250 to 0 ohms. I found the model 6187 pot on the web for $16. It appears to be identical except it does not have the stops so it rotates freely in either direction and reads 5k to 0 or 0 to 5k depending on which terminal you test. Before I solder this new pot in to test I wanted to know if anyone has experience with this. If the pot works then it is a cheap fix compared to the hassle and expense of installing an Mcor conversion for $350. The pot and the microswitch are the only components in the pot box housing which is just a plastic box. Thanks for your help. |

Re: Club Car Pot Specs & Operation
sounds fine to me.
odd that they are using 1/4 of a 5k pot... i would have expected 1/4 of a 20k pot to get the normal 5k-0 range. -sj |

Re: Club Car Pot Specs & Operation
I have another cart that is stock and is working properly. Tomorrow I will unplug the grey plug that comes from the pot box and measure the resistance at rest and full throttle.

Re: Club Car Pot Specs & Operation
FYI .....
Club car originally was a 5k-0 system. With the introduction of the the 3 wire system whether it is an mcor or a vglide CC is really working with a 6k-1k input... I hope this helps...It cost me plenty to learn |

Re: Club Car Pot Specs & Operation
How can the cart utilize the full 5k range of a linear pot when the accelerator pedal assembly can only turn the stem about 90 degrees out of 340 total?
