More speed on DS cart needed
I have had a 97 DS cart for 3 years and not sure how long the batteries last or how to tell when they need replacement. The tag on the motor says 36 volt 3500 rpm but cart has 6 batteries with 4 cells each which makes it a 48 volt system? My neighbor has a very similar cart and it goes much faster even on the hills compared to mine but I never looked at his motor or whatever other parts make it go faster---any ideas? Thanks.

Re: More speed on DS cart needed
If you have a 36v motor in a 48v system, you cart should be faster than a stock 48v motor in a 48v system . . . test your battery pack voltage 12 hours after charger shuts off and measure the SG in the cells and post your results here . . . that will give a starting point to help diagnose your situation . .

ok but what do you need to measure the specific gravity in the cells// I am not sure how to do that. The voltage at each battery doesn't help to know about condition?

Test should be done after charging. let the batteries sit and settle 12 hours before testing and post the voltage and SG readings for each cell here.

Re: More speed on DS cart needed
Go to local auto parts store and ask clerk for battery testing tool for SG . . cost should be under $15 . . . clerk should also be able to tell you how to use it . . very simple tool that sucks battery fluid out of cell and measures the SG either with a floating bulb or a needle indicator . . . don't forget to replace the fluid in the proper cell after testing . . .

Re: More speed on DS cart needed
if you have SG readings all over the map that indicates a battery problem like its not charged up as good as it could be...........something like that but you want those #,s as close as possible to each other if not the same...................................
