Default Allsport Lift

Hi, getting ready to install 6" Allsport A arm lift, any tips or tricks. I have installed several lifts on Jeeps, and there were certainly a few tips I learned along the way that made things easier. Was wondering if you guys had any buggie tips. TIA

I just did one on my precedent a few weeks ago. I added HV leafs in the back and found I had to switch the break cable brackets from driver to pasenger side to get the driver side cable to reach. I've read on the forum it's recommended to buy a passenger side cable for the driver side. That's what I'm doing.

I had to replace the driver side brake cable with one that is made for the passenger side. A brake cable removal tool would be very handy and they are available from one of our sponsors. The brake cable is a PITA without the tool. Some can get by without replacing the cable but I wasn't that lucky. I got the cable out that I replaced with my “home made” brake cable removal tool. I didn’t know that I needed this until I started replacing the cable.

If you are replacing the rear springs, get a bushing kit for the springs. Some spring kits come with them I think but mine didn’t. The rear bolts on the springs tend to seize in the spacers that are in between the two rubber bushings on the rear of the springs. This is due to corrosion. I had a pain getting one bolt out but I did it and salvaged the bolt. Some people have had to cut the bolts.

When you do the rear, just drop one side of the axle at a time and install the new springs and or lift kit on the side dropped then do the other side.
I used a 2”X6” cut to fit across the frame and used a floor jack to raise the whole rear of the cart. Raise it only as high as you have to, to replace the parts. Same for the front on how I raised it.

The front ain't fun but is very doable. There are several things that have to come off/loose. The front bumper has to be removed plus light kit if you have one plus a number of other items.
Just follow the instructions and you will be OK. The instructions that come with the AllSports lift aren’t that great but with a little imagination it will go together well. I wish that I had taken pictures and rewrote the instructions as I went and then made them into a PDF file. I could have posted it here and been a hero.

Aligning the front end took me a bit of time. The wheels have to be aligned vertically then the toe in set. You need a good flat/level surface to work on and a framing square. The square is for vertical alignment. You maybe able to use a tape measure to set the toe in but I did it an old fashioned way. I cut a stick/piece of wood when I had the toe in close to use to measure distance between the tire side walls at the front and rear of the tires to get the 1/8” I needed. When adjusting your toe in, make sure you adjust both tie rod ends the same to keep your steering wheel lined up right.

This is what I did for the cart in my sig.

Hope this helped a little, Sam

Is the longer cable a must or does it vary? Does anyone have a link for the brake cable tool that is referred to, lift arrives tomorrow. Thanks

It's not a MUST but it's easy.. I've changed a little bit about the way these kits go on the rear to keep you from having to do that. About 6-8 months ago the Precedent kits started to come with the "Super Sport" rear lift. Ever since then I've been able to lift the rear of these vehicles and keep the original cables in-tact. Here's what you do. Install the lift kit as follows, from top to bottom,.. Plate with shock mount tab, heavy duty spring, original shock mount plate with brake cable mount, spring perch, axle tube, with the square plate on the bottom. I put a 5-16" bolt through the square plate to make it seat into the original spring perch to keep it from twisting. You'll want to cut the old Shock mount off of the original shock mount plate to allow the shock to fit onto the new one. I'll get a pic of this tomorrow and post it. As for the brakes, remove the axle from each side of the drive unit, un-bolt the brake clusters and swap them to the other side, and flip them upside down. This will put the brake slide mechanism at the top of the cluster rather than at the bottom. Bolt them up and re-install the axles. The new location of the brake cable mounting tab lines up PERFECTLY with the new location of the brake cable slides. This keeps a factory pedal feel and it also keeps the brake cables from hanging so low and reduces the risk of snagging them on something

Thanks, a pic would be a huge help, about how long does it take to do a lift, on Jeeps about 4-6 hours, usually every other bolt is seized, will start with PB blaster the day before. Any tips on installing a new body, just went with a new black body, got it for 350 vis having one painted. Wanted the color all the way through to help when it gets scratched, thanks again.

Thanks Dave, I have the longer cable as well, am I better off replacing it or doing the flip as you described?

Either way will work, but I like the fact of knowing my brake cables aren't hanging down real low. I've still got the long cable on my own personal cart and it's fine, I didn't really start experimenting with it until after I did it that way for a long time. Now I flip them all. It cuts down on cost and I think it's better overall.
