Precedent Hesitation
I have a 2008.5 Club Car Precedent with a lift kit and off road tires. The electrical system is stock to my knowledge. I use it a lot for filling my deer feeders and checking my trail cameras.
Yesterday I carried about 200 lbs of corn to one of my feeders and had to go over a little hill not much bigger than a speed bump. My cart did hesitate some, but then went over the hill okay. Afterwards I started hearing a humming noise when I would start pressing the gas pedal. After driving it a little more I was just starting to move forward when the cart suddenly jerked to a stop, moved a little and did it again. I let off the pedal and started again and it seemed to drive fine till I tried to drive up my trailer ramp and it stopped halfway up the ramp. I felt the motor and it was pretty warm to the touch and I was able to load the cart after letting it sit for about 30 minutes. I have one of ScottyB's battery meters and had plenty of battery power. I called the Golf Cart modifying shop I bought it from and he said it would be an experiment to fix starting with replacing the solenoid, then the controller and finally the motor. Any thoughts or guidance in which direction I should proceed? I usually have my two little boys with me and I do not want to get stranded. Thanks Thomas |

Re: Precedent Hesitation
i think i would start with the cheapest fix.......speed sensor......if the shop is going to replace this stuff on their dime ok but if they are going to charge you..........no way start with the sensor..................................

Re: Precedent Hesitation

Re: Precedent Hesitation
I drove my cart again this morning and from a dead stop it would not go one a small hill about the size of a speed bump. Once you get going no problems noted it just not seem to have any torque when starting to move.
Also when I was trying to go over the little hill I could hear a humming noise from the motor/rear axle area as soon as I pressed the gas pedal. I don't quite understand how a speed sensor would cause those problems, but I am quite ignorant of the way the electrical carts function. Thanks Thomas |

Re: Precedent Hesitation
it may not be a speed sensor that was just 1 thing to check......it could be motor or maybe even something with controller..........this is kinda hard when your not at the cart while its acting up..................................

Re: Precedent Hesitation
I can almost guarantee you've got a bad motor. If you were to take the motor loose you'd probably smell it before you got it off of the drive unit. Do a continuity check on it. A1 to A2 and F1 to F2. This is with wires disconnected from motor. You should have continuity in those two places and nowhere else. No cross continuity between A's to F's and definitely no continuity between any post and the base of the motor.
