Question Aluminum Wheel Porosity

Has anyone ran into a problem with a custom aluminum wheel where no matter what you do, it looses air around the bead? I have one wheel that always goes flat and the only leak I can find is at one spot on the bead . . . I have removed the tire, cleaned the bead area and it still leaks. Just wondering what you may have done to eliminate this problem. My only guess is that there may be porosity in the casting. Is there any after market "stuff" (other than Slime) that could be "painted" onto the wheel that may solve this dilemma . . .

Just throwing out a guess but? How about a spray on sealer like a varnish? can dismount the tire to do this?

I was sort of thinking along the lines of Krylon clear, but have found this just now:

Anyone use this product before?

You can get a can of tire and rim sealer. It's like black tar looking stuff, you break the tire down and paint it on both sides of the bead, tires and wheel. A friend had the same problem with a rusted up steel wheel on his trailer. He bought it at a tire store where they do tractor and lawnmower tires.
Hope this helps some, LURCH!!!!!!!

a light coating of grease will cure it but so you know when you do try and just clean them anything less than like a die grinder with a heavy buffing type wheel on it is a waste of time......................................

Never tried it but I know lots of GC tires leak around the bead.....there is a need for some decent stuff that doesn't make a mess.

The bead seal is a little messy but once you get the tire and wheel sealed you can take something and wipe off the excess, its tough you'll have to use some type of thinner or something simpler.

one thing you need to understand about tires is that they all are made with pin holes around the bead about 6 inches spaced between them all around on both sides.......this is for heat because as they heat up they build pressure so these vents release air or pressure as needed...........i have seen some that were defect and the pin holes to big causing a slow leak so if you want just air the tire up when cold and spray soapy water around it and watch to see if you get any leaks.................if so it could be the vent holes are to big and if thats the case and its a new tire you can,t replace you can throw a tube in it................................

It seems to leak in the same spot on the rim even after breaking bead and rotating tire . . . this leads me to believe it is a wheel issue . . .

I know you said "not slime" but I put it in all my low speed toys when I get them. 4-wheelers, golf carts, wood splitter, cart trailers ect. I never have this issue. I have ITP wheels and big 4-wheeler tires filled with slime for about 8 years now with never a flat! Now saying that, I will get one today!
