check your solenoids and resistor coils..............jack the rear up and put it in gear and watch as your pressing pedal...........should be 5 distinct clicks, 1st one no movement.......2nd one wheels should start spinning slowely and speed up as you hear the next click and so on up to the 5th one.............find which one isn,t clicking and you,ll have found your problem..................and if not the only other thing would be motor brushes ( unlikely but possible ).........................................

When mine did that is was the MCOR. Mine only did it as I was accelerating at low speeds, so a little different that what you described, but replaced mine and haven't had any trouble since.

1985 CC has 5 micro switches and 5 solenoids for drive system (no MCOR)

Test like shadowman said but, cart may run fine with no load (wheels in the air) and still jerk under load (wheels on the ground).
Let us know I have a couple of theories here depending upon your first test.

you have 1 bad solenoid..........from drivers side its the 3rd one or middle one however you understand it.......your missing that speed ( 2nd speed ) so its jerking when it hits ( 3rd ) speed............................
