Default 1985 Club Car Comes and Goes

I have a 1985 CC that speed comes and goes. Somtimes I get in it and press the gas and it goes right on full speed. Other times I press the gas and it hardly moves, almost like the battery is drained, even when its fully charged. I can usually pump the gas pedal until it comes around and goes on full speed again. I bought this unit used recently and know little about its previous maintenance. I see the other posts about solenoids and listening for the clicking. Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Speed in a 1985 CC comes from the sequential operation of the solenoids. They are controlled by micro-switches located in a square/rectangular box at the end of the accelerator rod under the cart/driver's seat. The micro-switches are activated via a nylon slide that activates the switches in order. In your instance, I would start checking the solenoids, then the micro-switches, then the nylon slide.
Make sure that all contacts are clean and tight on the solenoids and batteries.

I have jacked the rear end up and listened to the solenoids. I hear four distinctive clicks but I think I have 5 solenoids? Is this correct?

Additionally, my rear right wheel is spinning full tilt but the rear left either doesn't spin at all or spins about half as much as the rear right one.

Again, I am not mechanically inclined and was hoping to avoid a repairman. Thanks for all of your help thus far.

from the drivers side to pass side .................your furthest left solenoid is the master when it clicks cart won,t run .......2nd click is 1st speed thats when cart starts running.....so you have to watch and listen to what solenoid isn,t clicking............and its normal that just the 1 side is spinning and other isn,t or is just barely thats normal......as your watching slowly press pedal you can see wheel speed up as each solenoid activates.......................................

Gotcha. Just to be sure, I only hear 4 clicks so one of the 5 is obviously not working? I hear the first click when nothing happens.

To make matters worse the guy I bought it from had one of the wires rigged improperly to the F/R Switch and when I was trying to tighten it, I broke it. Looks like I'll be ordering a new Switch as well.

Thanks again for all of you alls help, this site is great.

pb33, I'm in about the same position you are on my 87 CC, except I have no 1st speed or 4th (I think). All 5 solenoids click but 1st does nothing and I can't feel a difference between 3 and 4. I have a new solenoid coming so we'll see what that does!
