Default 42v on club coil car?, sccotyb? Question

Ok, guys I search the forum looking for this information, maybe I must have miss it. I have a 1994 Club Car with fairly new batteries. I have search the forums on putting a 48v's on a 36v's by just adding batteries and a nessary up grade on cables (4g or 2g). But it seems that there no cheap way out to give my little car just a little more pep and little more torque using a 48v setup by just adding batteries). ScootyB said a 48v would melt a stock 36v system in another post. So probably; not the best opition. I have a 1999 Ezgo that has great torque and speed and I also have a 1984 club Car that needs some attention.I live in a completely flat area with a paved road and a flat yard by the way. Lets just say I have some extra good 6v batteries and parts to play around with, but still on a tight budget. So; for the big question here! Could I put a extra 6v battery into a 36v system making it 42v just to give me a little more power and speed and run time. Other than figuring out how to charge 42v. Would there be any reason it would harm my car or burn it up?, If so, what parts to a minumum could work to make this small up grade?

By the way on my 1984 Club Car, It takes off and runs faster in reverse than forward, any ideals on why? Still fast in forward, but the take off in reverse is so much more powerful.

on your 84 sounds like the 1/2 speed reverse isn,t in play........for safety it should only run 1/2 speed in reverse so if its not there is a cable mounted to a wrong battery giving reverse 36 volts..........as for your other cart i know lots of people running their carts with like four 6 volt batteries and two 8 volt batteries or three 6 volt and three8 volt..............and in most cases they still use their 36 volt charger ..............now i can,t tell you what goes on when they are charging their carts as i,m not there but this is what i have seen on many of these carts when they come to me...........every month or so cart quits running they bring it to me and i find something melted be it a cable going to motor or the v-glide or one of the cables going to v-glide or to f&r switch and ruined brushed holder inside motor or melted resistor coils..........all this stuff happens like one thing at a time over time..............the only thing all these carts have in common is running 40 or 42 volts............and all i can tell you is some of these people i have talked into just please get all the right batteries in your cart and problems will go away and guess what they do.......no more issues.......the ones that insist on throwing just any battery in when needed well they are still paying my bills.............. but they think they are saving money by not putting the right batteries in...............i think my point is you can do that and cart will run and i assume charge but if you start noticing that hey every month something odd is going on...............your answer will be your batteries......again this is just the pattren i have watched over 11 years..................................

The answer is no. while the stock speed control may handle a slight overvoltage based on a fresh off the charger 36v pack reading 42v, it will not handle that plus another 6v.
The controller will fail if you do this. Keep looking around for a used 400 amp AXE or similar controller for your project.
In the meantime keep those spare 6v batteries watered and charged up

No clue why, but when my 94ds started going full speed reverse, it was a small difference in lever position- I thought "cool". Replaced the melted F/R switch a few weeks later...
