Cart got flipped, Lost Some Acid.
Had a Birthday Party here this weekend and long and short of it is that one of the kids somehow tipped the cart over on a turn. Amazingly, no one was hurt with the exception of very minor bumps and scratches.
Minor damage to the cart, and miraculously only one battery seemed to have lost electrolyte. On that battery, there were two cells with level below the plates. Others didn't appear to have lost a drop. Judging by what was on the ground the one batt did lose a good amount of liquid, and my best guess would be several ounces. Just wondering if I should replace this battery, or is there another option? The batteries are three years old and still seem pretty strong to me. Would appreciate any feedback. |

Yea, I think we all learned something on this one and have made some changes to the rules I think will help prevent this from ever happening again. When you say keep and eye on it, what am I looking for? I haven't got around to getting a hydrometer yet, but really want to now to make comparisons. I do some lab work in my job and can obtain lab grade Sulfuric and was curious about adding a small diluted amount, but just don't know if this is a good idea. If just adding D.I. water is all I need, I will do just that. Thank you again for the reply Sir. |

Re: Cart got flipped, Lost Some Acid.
if your only talking oz,s i would just go with the D.W as for keeping an eye just pay attention to the cart................less runtime than before, anything odd battery related that just pops up and on water levels......voltage tests with digital meter you know just to make sure but again if its just ozs i don,t think you,ll have any negitive effects unless that battery cracked or somehow is now compromised.....................and yes get a battery hydrometer that should be standard equipment with an electric cart and cost under 10 bucks.....................................

Re: Cart got flipped, Lost Some Acid.
I would make a more pro-active response. If you can make electrolyte (acid) I would go with a combination. Fill with water immediately to cover the plates .... then add acid and charge.
Also get a large spray can of terminal cleaner and spray everything that got acid on it and hose it off, the sooner the better. |

Yep, did the cleanup first thing. Rinsed, neutralized and re-applied protectant. I will add acid along with the water.
Thanks guys, Patrick |
