Motor Post?

I just got a 1991 36V Club Car from a friend. It has a blown controller and I am wanting to test the motor before I buy another controller. I cannot see anywhere on the motor that shows the label of each post. Can someone tell me which post is what? The motor is a 5BC48JB764 and the top post is separated from the other three. I was wanting to do a quick continuity test to make sure the motor wasn't bad or caused the controller to blow. I was reading a post by Phasetim saying:

A1 to A2 should have continuity
S1 to S2 (or F1 to F2) should have continuity
A1 to motor case, should have no continuity
A2 to motor case, should have no continuity
S1 to motor case, should have no continuity
S2 to motor case, should have no continuity

I just don’t have any idea which is A1, A2, S1 or S2.

The post should be labeled accordingly.


If your motor has 4 posts all in a row near the outside of the motor. Then the first and third post will have continuity and the second and fourth the same, and no continuity between case and any posts. I don't remember which is a or s on those, but it doesn't matter too much.

If the motor has 4 posts two towards the end of the motor and two in a little further, then the two outer posts are your A terminals and your two inner posts are your S (or F) terminals.

I had a hard time finding the post markings on my motor also. I used some steel wool and it cleaned it real good. The labels are actually stamped into the casing.
