Default Low Volts on Battery Pack

'87 CC ,36 Volt . Batteries are two years old . Checked the voltage on the battery pack and only shows 24 volts . Batteries were charged Saturday . Had one cable end corroded to the point where it fell apart when taken off . It was the neg. cable on #4 battery . Cut off cable end and put on new end . Corrosion was not evident in the end of cable . Put on charger and after charger went off in about two hours checked voltage again and the battery pack showed 24 volts still . Have noticed a stong oder the last few days that smells like battery acid . Cart has not been used much in the last week . Don't remember when exactly but I have checked battery pack voltage in the past and they showed 36 - 38 volts . I expect a load test will be suggested but I'll have to get some alligator clips for my DMM first . Just thought you guys could give me your thoughts on what the problem may be and if I'll need to do the load test ? Thanks .

have you taken voltage from each battery? along with whole pack.......i would and are you sure your meter is correct cause at 24 volts your charger wouldn,t even come on so charger has to be reading more than 24 .....................................

I knew it had to be something simple that I was not seeing . Turns out I was checking voltage off wrong batteries ! I should have checked that out before starting this thread . Sorry . Thankfully I only wasted shadowman's time - Thanks for your reply . As stated it's an '87 CC and I didn't see a wiring diagram in the stickies so I used the one for the 81-85 CC which is about how my '87 is wired . I now have each battery marked by number and each positive battery post marked in red ! Each battery did measure out from 6.18 -6.39 volts after being charged yesterday . Can't remember total of pack but it was over 38 volts .

Thanks! When I get my dash painted and Scottty's Digital Meter installed I'm going to put a sign on the dash "Put on charger @ 36-1/2 volts ". Hoping the wife and grandkids will follow through . As I told my wife (it's HER cart) , we need to take care of those expensive battieries . I got away with getting her a new set for Christmas two years ago and I don't know if I will be able to make that fly next time , LOL . She was tickled with the rear seat I got her for this Christmas so maybe I can get the things I want to fix it up with as Mothers Day , Birthday, and who knows , maybe Wedding Anniversay gifts . I must have forgot some occasion - There's a lot I want to do to it and as you know it can get expensive . Thanks again .
