48 volt Resistor cart conversion??
I have read where you cannot convert a 36 volt resistor cart to 48 witout the use of a controler system BUT has anyone ever tried using maybe a thicker gauge resistor material to hold the upgraded voltage? I was thinkin of something with about the same resistance but a bigger gauge so it wont burn out. Maybe a different type of resistor or a potentiometer that you could adjust the speed of the first and second speeds. Just thinking it would be alot cheaper than a controler conversion.

Re: 48 volt Resistor cart conversion??
You waste a lot of energy with a resistor type setup, you could try to do it, but you would be better off going to like a PB-6 setup mount a controller and you would be set. Of course that is just and opinion, good luck. One of the site sponsors sells a kit to help make it easier though, just fyi.

Re: 48 volt Resistor cart conversion??
I have been checking out the kits and I would love to go that route but the expense of it is the problem. Is it possible to buy like a factory controler from a Club Car and do it that way or would it be cheaper to just by a kit. It is just a neighborhood cart on asphalt and cut grass, just want the 48v for the additional umph.

You could buy it from CC, but it would be more costly then going through the site sponsor, anything you buy directly from the manufacturer will be costly.

Re: 48 volt Resistor cart conversion??
Here take a look, then just for grins ask what a stock 36v controller would cost new at a local CC dealer, remember this is just the controller, not all the other items you will need to make the conversion. If you go through with it, you will not be disappointed.

Re: 48 volt Resistor cart conversion??
I've heard of people doing it with no issues at all. I think it's all based on how you use it. We've got one customer with a cart like this who we see every 6 months. It's like clockwork. He needs a new V-Glide switch every time we see him because he's melted it down.
