Default '03 DS - front inner bearing race seized

2003 CC DS cart, with silver bearing caps.

I'm in the middle of a 6" lift kit install, small stumble removing the left side bearing from the spindle - the inner race is stuck tight to the spindle. Soaked for a few hours in PB Blaster then tried using a 3-jaw bearing puller, but stopped when it looked like the bearing was starting to come apart. There's a small amount of surface discoloration on the spindle but nothing too dramatic, so I'm guessing the race is corroded on. (I'll use 400/800 grit emery cloth and oil to clean up the surface once the bearing is removed).

Guess I'm going to need to just write off the bearing and chisel it off - before I do that, looking for other suggestions and ideas.

I will soak it overnight and try the puller again, but was wondering if chilling the spindle overnight in the freezer might help as well?

You can heat the race with a small torch getting it "pretty warm", then see if it will come out.

Have also used shadowman's method

Emergency over, I'm just not patient enough to wait overnight.

Did exactly that, used a carbide cutting wheel and cut through halfway, popped with a cold chisel and off it came. Lot more rust under there than I expected. Now to order a new bearing set.

Thanks for the help!

next time instead of a 3 jaw puller...use a bearing separator

it uses even pressure all the way around the bearing

I haven't checked the bearing numbers but those bearings should be available at you local auto parts store. Should be a standard double sealed bearing

I actually tried a local Pep Boys and O'Reilly store this AM - neither could cross-index the Timken part number*. After digging through a couple boxes of bearings at P-B, I just bought a new inner and grease seal from the local cart dealer (who, BTW, has the slowest customer service I've experienced in years).

Lifted front is complete except for adjusting camber and toe. Anyone know the correct torque for the steering wheel nut?

Now just trying to figure out the rear lift install - the crappy instructions aren't very clear for a first time installer. Hoping to complete it tomorrow.

* (Timken part #'s - Bearing LM11949, Race LM11910, bearings are the same inside and outside).

Same thing that I was thinking. I would be willing to bet that my local Napa would have it.
