new cart and need info
I am new to the forum and just bought a 1990 electric club car. (DS?) It is 36 volt and the batteries are about 2 years old. I charged them and they drew about 20 amps at first and by morning the charger had shut down and was at zero. I used the cart for half an hour or so and then put it back on the charger for the night in the morning the charger was still drawing 10-15 amps and I could hear the bats boiling or at least bubbling some. My question is why didnt it shut down? Today I ran it about 15 miles and it still seems to have a bunch left in it. How much I dont know and I dont want to get stranded. By the distance I traveled I would asume the bats are in good condition but even when fully charged it climbs hills very slowly. On the flats it moves out pretty good. Do electric carts just slow down that much on hills? There is no kick or more torque on the hills like a gas cart. Does my cart have an adjustment for torque or speed? Should I charge it after short twenty minute runs or run it 15 miles or so and then charge it? How far will this cart go on a charge? Sorry ,I have a lot more questions but I will leave it at this for now. Thanks in advance!

I have a 1990 and it gets slow even on inclines. Does your lose power if you mash the accelarator to the floor? Mine does it is like I have to keep the pedal just at the right spot to make it go. I know this doesn't help you but I am also new the cart and site and have not even figured out how to post a question.

I have an 02, and it climbs hills kinda slow as well. Runs about 12-14mph on level ground. I was told this is normal. Some of the guru's will chime in shortly!!
I hope I can get about 15miles out of mine before recharging!!! |

Welcome to the forum mojo racing.........................
Dont know why the charger didn't shut down. Need more information. Get a volt meter and check the voltage on each battery and list them here. Then, get a voltage reading on the whole battery pack. Give us the readings just after being charged and again after you have driven it. A serious golf cart owner will also spend about 3 to 10 dollars for a hydrometer to know how good the batteries are. You'll need it and a volt/ohm meter (VOM) or a digital multimeter. |

Welcome to the forum ELAZOB...........................
You will also need a volt meter and a hydrometer. The key to getting help on the forum is to have these 2 tools and ask one question at a time and resolve it before moving on to the next question, unless of course the helper ask for more info. You guys will enjoy the folks here. We have lots of fun as well as get problems taken care of. |
