Buggy and Battery
I want to buy my husband a golf car. My brother is helping me and said he has had problems with the 4-12 volt Trojan Battery. He told me around 2006 Trojan converted from a 6-8 volt to a 4-12 volt battery and that Trojan is being sued over it. Is this true or is my brother just blowing smoke? Was or is there an issue with the Trojan Battery after it was converted around 2006 from a 6-8 volt to a 4-12 volt? Can anyone shed some light on this? I do not want to get into a situation where i am spending my hard earned money and the Battery is going to give me grief.

Re: Buggy and Battery
not sure about any law suits but they did go to a four 12 volt setup and then in 2008 they went back to the 8 volt setup so that should tell you something........there are guys here using the 12 volt setup and they say its ok but the majority opinon is for the 8 volt battery setup.......so if thats a concern for you i would say stay with an 8 volt setup i,m sure hubby will be happier with that.....what a lucky guy he is, the wife is buying him a golfcart what a lucky guy.......are you gonna hop it up for him as well?? you know for it to run right it will need a lift with a hi speed motor and a bigger controller not to mention bigger tires/wheels and lights.....maybe a back seat you know the basics....................................... .

Re: Buggy and Battery
A lot of 4/12v Precedent carts out there running around just fine. The run time & expected service life is shorter than 6/8v is all.
What ever you buy, find the age of the batteries. 8v last about 4-5 years and 12v last about 3-4 years on average. Of course, somebody is going to post that they got 6 years from their 4/12v set up. I don't doubt there are a few but on average you will find my statistics hold true. Good luck finding your cart |

Re: Buggy and Battery
I've got 3 years on my batteries, 4 12 volt Trojans in a Precedent. I did have one go bad, (the one used as the 12 volt light/accessory source.) I've added a converter to use ALL 4 Batteries 48 volt to 12 volt and no more problems. I get good run times with my cart and for what I use it for I'll be keeping the 4 12 volt setup and not converting it over to 6 8 volts.
On your Negative Battery Post there should be a Letter then a number. For example L8 which would mean December 2008. A-L for Jan through Dec and the Number for the Year of the Battery. |

3- years down the line. ( batteries are home now plugged into a desulphanator/maintainer all winter long) also unlike SCUBABUD.. i run one headlight on only one 12 volt battery. The secret here is that my headlight (cost $87 )while over 500 lumens only draws 1.4 amps so it doen't drag down my battery. |
