Adjusting the brake shoes on 93 CC DS
I ordered new brake shoes for my 93 CC DS and had the drums turned at the auto store. My problem is, I can't figure out how to adjust the brake shoes outward. On trailers and cars etc there is a rod on the bottom of the shoes the usually has a double thread and you can either tighten or loosen it to get them to go out or in. I can't seem to figure out how to get them to adjust OUT on my Club Car. My cables are way too tight and they have actually ripped the rubber seal on the back of the brake housing. I'm pretty mechanically enclined but the only thing I can see is that the bottom end of the brake shoe actuator arm has a bolt holding the actuator in its place. I don't see how that would allow the actuator to be adjusted IN or OUT.
Am I missing something? |

The early carts had the adjuster on the back side of the backing plate. look at 12 o clock, it should have a rubber cover on it... square drive, fits a crescent wrench, & turning it clockwise spreads the shoes out.

Re: Adjusting the brake shoes on 93 CC DS
Ah ha! I was looking at the bolt on the BOTTOM and not the top. I'm getting it now. It still seems like this is kind of a crappy way to work the brake shoes..... It's like you have to get them as close to rubbing on the top and then tighten the cables for your bottom adjustment, all the while trying not to run out of movement on the arm attached to the cables..........

Actually the cable only moves the bottom of the shoe and the adjustment presets the top position... not bad and very simple.... If you have trouble with not having enough adjustment you may need new drums.

Re: Adjusting the brake shoes on 93 CC DS
I Lied. I'm not getting anywhere. If I adjust the top to where it's just before rubbing and then adjust the slack out of cables for the brakes I get no brakes at all. I MAY need new rotors? It seems like I have a dragging spot on both sides? If I tighten it down on the top and it gets to the dragging spot it stops turning totally. I had the rotors turned and got all the grooves out of them? Theres no way I could have bent axles is there? I know that sounds crazy but I can't make sense of the dragging spots having just turned the rotors........ It just seems like the top and the bottom are not equaling eachother........

Re: Adjusting the brake shoes on 93 CC DS
one thing about C.C. rear brakes i havn,t seen many sets that wear even.........it seems they wear more on the top on one side and bottom on the other....don,t know why but i quit worrying about that long ago......if i were you i would get a new set of drums sad part is new drums may cost less than what you pain to have yours turned................99 out of 100 they won,t even turn them its not worth it.....................................

Re: Adjusting the brake shoes on 93 CC DS
All brake drums (you don't have rotors) are out of round.
They drag on one spot first when tightened. This is the proper preset spot. They should drag but still be able to be turned by hand with a little force. |

Re: Adjusting the brake shoes on 93 CC DS
I paid 21.20 to have them turned. It just seems like I can't get either side of the equation to sync with each other. I can't seem to find rotors any cheaper than 40.00 a piece?
