Extra battery for 48v. CC for radio???
Is it possible to run a radio off an extra battery and is there a way to hook it up with the others to keep charged?? Or should I just run a voltage reducer to run radio...

1. Yes you can, and it's what I'm planning on doing for mine along with the other 12 volt accessories I plan on adding. 2. I'm not sure on this, but I wouldn't think it would be productive to the charger's life at the very least, might fry your 12 volt accessories if they see the full voltage of the battery pack, and / or cause electrical issues while charging on the worse case scenerio. I would honestly just get a second charger for the added battery if it were my cart (and is exactly what I plan on doing). 3. This would be the easiest to do if you want to only run one charger, but it will cut into your run time depending on how many accessories you run and the length of time you run them. I'm hoping someone else that is more qualified to answer the 2nd question than I am will let you know about it. -Scott H. |

This boils down to personal preference and how you use your cart. I have a marine battery in the bagwell for stereo and accessories, seperate charger is required. A voltage reducer would work just as well I think, but I dont carry golf clubs

Re: Extra battery for 48v. CC for radio???
I use two 12 volt sealed batteries in parallel with some 17 run time hours that I have laid down in the bagwell and installed a 8" subwoffer on top (see pic in album). I found a batt charger/maintainer at wally world for$20 I wired quick connect and came up between seats to easy access to charge. It last for a long time butt when I charge cart I do both. I use same quick connect to plug inverter to put rope lights when decorate for events at night.
I just cant get all the noise/interferrence in fm radio out I will have to settle for what it is. |

Thanks,,,, I am still not sure. I am leaning toward the reducer right now.. I heard I can use 2 of my batteries together but I don't want to reduce run time... decisions decisions....

From what I have been told when I asked about running my accessories off of a couple of the batteries in the pack instead of using a reducer, if you pull the voltage off of only part of your pack you run the risk of damaging the other batteries that are not being used to run the accessories while charging. The reason for this is the batteries you aren't using to power the accessories will get to their full charge quicker and possibly overcharge, while the ones you pull the 12 volts off of are still not up to full capacity so the charger sees the lower voltage and keeps charging. For the longetivity of your pack there really are only 2 good choices, the extra battery to run the accesories or use the voltage reducer so the complete pack will discharge and charge as a single unit. -Scott H. |

Oh, one more thing to add to the decision process...
I can't remember who it was or how long ago it was, but there was a discussion I read on here about using solar panels to charge the extra battery in a cart. You'll have to do a search to find it though. Sorry for adding something else to the decision process, but I figured you might like to know about all your options. -Scott H. |

Re: Extra battery for 48v. CC for radio???
Are you just running a simple radio with an overhead console? If so, they don't pull all that much... I ran a small 12v motorcycle battery that just happens to fit in the middle of a 4 12v tray, and ran 2 bolts up to connect to the charger... Works rather well for me.... all the music I want... And some my playing buddies don't!!!

Thanks Scott,,, I think I'll go with an extra battery, probably easier,,What would you go with a full size marine battery or a smaller motorcycle battery??? Just wondering what would give me the longest run time..... Thanks

My thought , for what it's worth , LOL , is to think if you might want to add some more accessories down the road . If you are " Getting Wild " my bet is you will want to add to it !
