Short runs and Overcharging?

I'm just wondering if there is a number you should get down too before charging. I understand about no going down too far, but what about the other end of things?

I do a lot of short runs..say a mile or less total and wonder if I should always charge.

In interesting question. I have a 48v and would like to know. And, does it make a difference if it's 36 or 48 volt?

if you do a lot of short runs i would charge after every 3 trips......thats what i do with mine, i don,t know if its right or not but it seems to work ok.............................

I have read on here, if you drive 50 feet you should charge it. I assume the charger makes a difference too, i.e: I have 36volt lestronic2 on my car, I maintain 3 IQ carts at work as well. I assume the IQ chargers are more forgiving than mine if plugged in "early". I THINK the lestronic2 just runs thru phases, and the IQs actually check and charge as needed.

From everything I have read, you can't over charge a lead acid battery. It appears you should plug it in after every run, no matter how short and let it charge until it stops. If I make a short run, my Precedent will be back to a full charge in a very short time.

I do think you can over charge, but I will deferr to others who know more on the subject.

this can be debated and beat to death.............one thing is a battery is only going to take a limited # of charges so wether you charge everyday for 2 years or every 3 days for 6 years when its done its done.....one of the things the OBC does on the 48 volt cart is count the # of charge cycles.....if your charger is working right you shouldn,t have to worry about overcharging your batteries but if you have a charger that dosn,t shut off yes you can overchage and severly cut the lifespan of your batteries but i think undercharging can be just as bad..........everyone drives their cart different and what works for me may not be good for you at all so this is one of tjose topics that can and does get debated to death.............................
