Exclamation 95 club car 48v wont run without bypassing solonoid

when I purchased my 97 48 volt club car it was not running. I replaced the batteries and still would not run. I took it to a repair shop where the told me the solenoid was bad. when i picked up the cart they told me they replaced the solenoid and now the obc is bad as well. They told me they could bypass the solenoid by putting a battery cable between the two posts and it would run. It in fact runs. The charger also works. They said the charger will not shut off by itself because of the bypass. My question is what could be wrong with my cart to need the bypass? If my obc is bad why is the charger working?

Welocme to BGW!

The obc controls the negative side of the solenoid activation circuit. Remove the jumper cable and use a small wire to connect the negative side of the solenoid activation circuit to the battery pack Negative. This could be at the pack or sourced from the controller B- terminal. If the cart runs, the obc has failed in the solenoid activation circuit. I have seen these carts continue to run like this so long as the charging side of the obc is still intact.
The simplest thing to do would be to change out the obc to the newer replacement version available .

Thank you for your reply. I will replace it as soon as possible. Do you know whether or not the charger will shut off automatically or not?

Depends if OBC is totally toast . . . should either complete charge or shut off automatically at 16 hours of running/charging . . . keep eye on it until you know for sure . .

If the obc has been bypassed it can do it's main job which is to control the charger.
Likely the answer is no.

to answer your questions no your charger will not shut off and if it fact OBC is bad your better off just replacing it as you can ruin your batteries otherwise.......they jumped the solenoid to get the cart to work that isn,t the best idea and when you do replace the OBC you,ll get the updated version of it and then yes your charger will shut off as it should.............if they replaced the solenoid and still had to run a jumper i would tell them to put your solenoid back on and run the jumper and get your money back for the solenoid put it towards the OBC as thatys almost 1/2 the cost.......you know if i tried doing this stuff like so called shops do i would be run out of town.....................................

on a 95 steve that has a bad OBC you can run a jumper from solenoid to last battery neg. terminal and get cart to run and charge but replacing the solenoid and still running a jumper is just plain dumb........and if they charged him to do that then they stole his money i see his 1st post says they told him solenoid was bad but that part i,m not buying............................
