93 CC DS Solid State/Hunting Buggy Conversion
So I figured I'd go ahead and start a thread on the modifications I plan on making to the Cart I have recently purchased. I got this cart for 200.00 plus a Goped Bigfoot Scooter in need of work.......
I plan on doing my solid state conversion using all Scottyb's parts as soon as I can get the funds together. I wanted to do the conversion on the elecs first but I found a set of wheels/tires on here for a good deal so I went ahead and purchased them and purchased a 6" Jakes Spindle Lift and Heavy Duty Leaf Springs (I'm going to be running a rear seat kit and 2 batteries in the bag well so I figured I'd need them). They told me on the phone that I couldn't get a 3 leaf kit, that they only had them in 4. She told me on the phone the leafs were welded together and that I wouldn't be able to get them apart. Turns out they weren't. To be honest, I'm not real impressed with the Jakes purchase. The quality of the components is good but the things I had to do during the installation made me a bit frustrated. The longer U Bolts for the heavy duty rear leafs were too big to fit into the holes on the bottom bracket that holds the brake cable and attaches to the bottom of the axle. I ended up having to drill the holes out myself, which was time consuming to say the least. I was also told that they would include new hardware for the leaf spring installation which didn't come either. Hardware store trip required. The pictures in the installation paper were too dark to even see what was going on. If you didn't have a good bit of mechanical ability and a good supply of tools you would have problems installing this lift. Most all my bolts had to be cut out because the bushings were stuck to the bolts and wouldn't allow them to come out. Also, the 8 bolts, (5/16x2.5") that hold the Steering arms to the spindles, WERE NOT in the packaging either. I ended up having to go to the hardware store again for them. Overall it has taken me 6.5 hours to put on the lift so far and i'm not totally finished. My plans after the lift are to totally gut the cart of its electrics and power wash it from end to end. I will then start the electrical conversion from 36v to 48v. I am going to keep my stock motor for the time being. I'm going to paint the wheels and lugs flat black and then get a Mossy Oak wrap for the body, put on a rear seat kit, a winch and build a front basket and top rack. I will try and post pictures as often as I can. I'm not trying to be a negative Nancy about the lift but I just figured I'd tell it like it is. No hard feelings against Jakes, just wish I could have gotten better service. |

Re: 93 CC DS Solid State/Hunting Buggy Conversion
Well, I was hanging around while the guy I bought my cart from installed the lift. Both the forward spring bolts had to be cut, and one drilled out. Mine were basically self welded (corroded) to the aluminum brackets. I am guessing this is common on an older cart. CC dropped the ball here not making these bolts and sleeves from stainless. They could spend the extra 20.00 and charge an extra 50 or whatever for this. Really dumb if you ask me. So, I went to the local cart shop and got all new bushings. Hardware store for the SS bolts/nuts and made sleeves from SS tubing. The guy who lifted it went back with the old bushings and NO SLEEVES! All good now though...
I like my Jakes 6" lift, but we had the exact same issue with the new U-bolt holes in the plates. Yep, had to drill em out. You would think they would catch this since they supply the U-bolts. No bolts missing for the front parts on mine though. Looks like we got just about the exact same cart, and my plans are just like yours...Trying to skimp on those funds so I can send some cash to ScottyB for all the power goodies. PM me, and I will tell you what rear seat kit NOT to buy. I think I would order the one from Jakes if I had a doo-over. My BIL has that one and I wish now that I did. Keep us updated, anxious to see how yours goes and compare notes. I've already posted my pics and I am sure people are tired of seeing it by now. Last edited by Brushpup; 02-18-2012 at 10:32 AM.. Re: 93 CC DS Solid State/Hunting Buggy Conversion
I havent used this jack to lift the whole cart YET but I'm pumped other carts guys use it! I bought it for 50 bucks from a facebook buy, sell, trade group and I thought it might come in handy. Working great so far! I'll have to let you know when I use it to lift the cart. Do you use blocks too? Doubt with the lift it will lift it very high......
