1997 club car - controller problem?
Hey Everyone,
I am a member of a team at Milwaukee School of Engineering and we are attempting to built a solar recharging unit on a golf cart we have just purchased, along with human machine interfacing. Well the problem we have is the cart is in great shape except the company we have purchased it from says the controller is bad. We haven't had a chance to remove the controller and troubleshoot it. Is it possible to repair these controllers or is there a way to bypass the controller. Also are there schematics for these controllers available. The cart is a 48 volt club series model. Other information When the key is turn and the gas pedal is pressed there is a clicking noise, almost like something is engaging, maybe the soleniod. when placed in reverse the busser goes off but the same action occurs. The red battery light does light up when the key is on. We are actually picking up the cart tomarrow so we haven't had a chance to charge it yet but the batteries are gaurneteed to be good. The place we purchased the cart from repairs all the carts for most of the golf courses in the madison and milwaukee and surrounding areas. So when they say its the controller i'm sure it is. If anyone has any insight on the controller we would greatly apprieciate it. Tony |

The controller is what runs your motor. It would be hard to drive your vehicle without it. If a reputable shop says its the controller, I would assume they are correct, and look into replacing it.

Welcome to the forum msoe guys.................
I agree with the above. It should be replaced if iis infact bad. The clicks are normal when pressing the accelerator...... so far, all information sounds good that you have given. When you get the cart, charge the batteries and tug on the big wires on top of the batteries and make sure they are tight. Inspect for bad corrosion and replace cables or cable ends as needed. Good Batteries and good connections are a must for any golf cart. If all of this is good then you can pretty much figure on replacing the controller. |

msoe--- most controllers are sold and installed as units.... You can look on the controller and contact the company that manufactured it, they might be able to give you that info.
