charger shut off time
I have a 97 CC 36v cart, I know with the OBC on the 48v carts the charger will go up to 16 hrs before shutting off. The charger on my 36v doesn`t seem to want to shut off and stays at 10A minimum even after charging for 14hrs. Batteries boiling to the point of almost getting below plates. Luckily I caught it before the plates were totally exposed on several cells in different batteries in the bank. Question is ...how long does it take to shut off on these chargers and shouldn`t it go to closer to 2 amps during the final charge cycle. Is there a way to check that the automatic shutoff is working properly?

Re: charger shut off time
i think there might be another issue if its staying at 10 amps.......theres something going on ......can you try the charger on another cart? and also just to make sure i would go over all the batteries and test cells with hydrometer......i don,t know of any way to test the charger to see if relay is bad while charger is working however with it staying at 10 amps or better i would be really looking to see if theres a battery causing it.......did this just start? ...............................................

Re: charger shut off time
I Just bought the cart 5 days ago and it has done it since I bought it. I don`t have my hydrometer here with me and don`t know anyone to try the charger on. I'm in Florida for a couple of months and bought the cart to ride in the little community I'm in for now. Hydrometer was probably the only thing I didn't bring with me. Batteries are less than a year old and are US batteries.

Re: charger shut off time
Test the combined voltage without the charger then plug charger in and see what voltage is at that point should be 3-5 volts more than the batteries total...IE 36 volt cart should be 39-41 volts with charger pluged in. Also what type of charger? Is it a manual or auto one?

Re: charger shut off time
i think the issue here is the charger not dropping below 10 amps maybe david or someone who knows a bit more will jump in but i don,t see this as a 100% charger problem...............................

Re: charger shut off time
Charger is automatic, a AccuPower 13800 by Lestronic. After sitting over night, I unplugged the charger after 6 hours of charge, the pack voltage was 37.9v when I plugged it in and waited a few minutes pack voltage was 43.5v. Charging at 17 A

Re: charger shut off time
i,m guessing but from your 1st post you have on several occasions left this charger on for at least 14 hours and its still reading over 10 amps correct?.......i just don,t think this is a charger problem its either very very deeply discharged batteries or maybe a battery with an internal short but theres something wanting to draw full amps from charger....i,m in no way an expert here but that seems to be the logical thing something going on with batteries...................................

Re: charger shut off time
Yes I left it on once for more than 14 hrs. Thats when I noticed it was still at 10A charging and batteries were really boiling. couple of cells were at the point of just starting to show the plates. Waited a while and then filled with distilled water. Now when I charge they start really making a boiling sound. I know some of this is normal, but it seems to be a lot more than my other carts do. I`m afraid to leave it on for more than 6 to 8 hours now and it never drops below 9 to 10A . After charging and letting sit for a while all batteries show almost the same voltage of 6.3 to 6.4 v.
