48 volt cart, 36 volt motor?

I have a 98 48 volt ds. I have numerous parts laying around, And found a 36 volt motor. I heard you can put a 36 volt motor on a 48 volt cart and it will give you more power. Is this true? Is it just a simple motor swap? Any info would help. Thanks!

I recently put a 36 volt motor in my 96 48 volt cart. it went from around 13 mph to 17 mph. I think as long as it is a series cart and the right motor it will work and u will be pleased (But let the experts on here tell you for sure).

yes you can use it and you should get about a 25% increase in speed and torque..............................

That's great. A 4 mph increase from 13 is over 33% , not to mention about the same increase in torque, right?

It works great in a series cart. I put one in my 48V series with a 400 amp controller and 22" tires and it hits 26mph with a new battery pack.

i couldn't tell a huge torque increase, it is noticable. but my batteries are pretty tired.

That's a 100% increase in speed over stock, So i guess you got more going on there than just a motor swap and 2" taller tires.

Is adding a 36 volt motor to a 48 volt cart a simple take off of the 48 volt motor and put on and plug in the 36 volt motor, if both are series motor? I am thinking about doing this with my club car DS. controller and solenoid etc. are stock, will it burn these up? thanks for any help

Lots of posts say u can do this. The only thing is both motors must have the same spline count so it connects to transaxle.

Hey Scottyb, can this be done on a newer style precedent EXCEL cart
Put a 36vdc motor on the 48vdc Excel cart ?

I have both the cart and a 36 volt motor

Anyone try this before

Maybe Tahoedawg will know the answer to this
