05 Club Car chattering and no power
Hello,I am new to carts so I have no experience with them but have a lot of mechanical background. My cart has new this year trojan batts, all connections are clean and the water levels are good.It started a chattering in the rear end and little to no power after short usage on freshly charged batts.I have a digital volt meter and will be checking batt volts next. Also it will trip the breaker that is on the charger when drawing only 10 amps on the charger.Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Re: 05 Club Car chattering and no power
was anything done to cart pryor to this?>? are they 12 or 8 volt batteries? regardless it sounds as if you might have a battery that shorted out internally.....so test voltage and load test each one.....what your decribing other than the charger tripping breaker is low voltage batteries.........also the cart is an 05 if they are 12 volt batteries and are original its more than likely time for a new set, if you can try your charger on another cart to see if it completes a full charge cycle that would help but i think once you get the battery issue taken care of charger will work fine...............post results and if your unsure of what voltage #,s post those as well also load test #,s.....................

It sounds like you have one or more problem batteries. Connect the meter to the pack (tape or clips). Place meter on the cart seat and drive the cart, report back here with voltage drop.

Re: 05 Club Car chattering and no power
Thanks for all the advice,I stopped by a cart shop this evening. they said the charger must have a problem,so I rushed home and grabbed it and took it back and they plugged it into one of their carts and it tripped the reset breaker on the charger. The said it was common and shouldnt cost much to repair.i will post their findings when I pick it up.Thanks again,Steve

Re: 05 Club Car chattering and no power
heat sink and diodes in charger but that dosn,t explain lack of power unless it hasn,t been charging cart .......from your post it sounded like charger was staying on for some time before tripping........................................

Re: 05 Club Car chattering and no power
You are dead on Shadowman,it was the heat sink that was tripping the circuit breaker on the charger and the voltage was low on the batts because they havent been charged properly.I appreciate the diagnosis and this web site and members.Steve
