Battery Post Melted and Charred?
I have a new set of Trojan 890's on my Club Car 48v and when looking under the seat today noticed one of the negative post is charred and melted down to the top of the battery. What could cause this? Is this kind of thing covered under the batteries warranty? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: Battery Post Melted and Charred?
i don,t think they would cover that unless you find it was a battery problem ..........99.9 % of the time when that happens it was because a cable came loose........or was dirty/loose if you can post a pic. depending on how bad and if its not because of a bad battery you can repair it......its cheap and not hard to do........................

Can't upload the other pic because it exceeds the KB allowed for the forum.

I saw a similar thing on my BIL's cart and it was a loose connector.

by the way my terminals loosen eventhough i have lock washers on them.... when i lost one of mine due to a loose terminal ( when i first discovered the chipmonk who loosens my terminals at night ) i was lucky and just used a marine battery terminal CLAMP with a screw terminal attachment. |

I think Bruce is right! Now, after you fix that one, Take all the rest off one by one and clean and retighten them! The reason you had the meltdown was a bad connection, which results in heat!

Re: Battery Post Melted and Charred?
I spoke with the place I purchased the batteries from and they said the post can be loose inside the terminal and cause this or the cable is loose like all of you have stated and will cause arching. I'm sure all mine were tightened down and the nut was still in the location it was before the arching. The good news is if the post is loose they will replace the battery. The bad news is it will have to be ordered because the Trojan 890 are a special order.
