1993 CC SE not charging and burning fuse

Hello,
I am a newbie. My neighbor has a 1993 Club Car Special Edition, 36 volt. the problem is that his charger will not kick on. The battery voltages are all around 5.5 volts. the fuse (15A) isburned and melted. He tried it with another friend's charger and it will charge but will melt/blow the fuse. My question is what does the fuse do and why is it blowing? Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I thought someone just might have a quick answer. Thanks, Kim

1st you need to get a wiring diagram and make certain all cables are wired correct and in good condition........once that is done than or if thats all ok the problem is in the charge receptical it either needs cleaned or wires may have shorted...........also clean the end on the charger where it plugs in ......most cases when this happens its because of loose, dirty connections you,ll also need to change that fuse it has to be good for charger to work also check the fuse on the charge receptical in cart.....its on top the clear plastic thing with the wire running thur it thats a fuse and it has to be good also...................once you change fuse and then change, clean, tighten, and make sure all wires still have insulation on them cart should charge.............................

Thanks so much, The fuse that is burning/melting is the one in the cart. It is a 15 amp blade automotive type. Thanks, Kim

I am assuming everything is wired right,

Most chargers I have played with seem that they wont kick on with extremely low voltage. I would take a 12/6 volt charger put it on 6 volts and try to bring each battery up to 2/3rds of what it should be. I am assuming you blow the fuse because the charger is trying to deliver to much current. Most charger's are rated at 20 amps so this makes sense.

You may have damaged the charger would be the other answer. If your technically inclined I can tell you the 3 parts to change that usually go bad.

is this a 36 or 48 volt cart?
