Default Headlight turn off when accelerating

I am new to the forum and have tried reading dozens here to find my answer without luck. I have a 1997 Club Card DS 48V (rocker type F/R switch) with 6 8V batteries. I bought this used a couple weeks ago and just recently installed a voltage reducer and a light kit. The voltage reducer was 30v-60V to 12V. Headlight kit is standard. I wired up the input of voltage reducer to postive on Battery 1 and negative on battery 6. I wired the output side directly to headlight harness. Lights work fine but when I push on the accelerator to take off, the lights turn off completely and then while still accelerating after a couple seconds they come back on. Does it only while accelerating. I am stumped.

I am wondering if its the voltage reducer or just the state of my battery plant. The are older batteries, 5 trojans and 1 other brand that seems newer. Any suggestions?

My initial thought is battery pack may be weak . . . may want to load test batteries and also check individual cell's specific gravity . . . what is the battery pack voltage after charging it up? . . . that would be my starting point, eliminating the most expensive item first . . .

I agree with Steve. It sounds like a weak battery, or batteries. Take a voltage reading on the entire battery pack sitting and then under acceleration and post what you get. Under normal conditions the headlamps should dim slightly, but not go out!

It is the batteries or you have alot of resistance in the wire

when my batts. got weak the lights would dim under load and my analog meter was dipping in the red under load but would go back in green after getting going and lights would brighten
