Consequences of Resistor Cart At Slow Speeds
I have a converted (36 to 48V) 2001 CC resistor cart with a lift and 22" tires. I know that I will add a controller one day but in the mean time, what is the consequence of running it at slow speeds (mainly for hunting)? I have heard that heat is an issue but I am not sure of the implications. I know I can avoid this by going full throttle but it turned out to be a pretty fast cart after the upgrade (over 20mph)!!

Re: Consequences of Resistor Cart At Slow Speeds
A resistor cart basically uses the same amount of energy regardless if you are running wide open or dead slow. The "excess" power (amperage) at lower speed is controlled by the resistor coils and is converted to heat as a by-product of this action. The biggest single disadvantage is you are only going to travel a given distance on a charge regardless of your speed where-as with a controller set up slower speeds will provide greater distance on a charge. Your second concern may well be that the added amp draw from the larger tires will generate more heat and put a greater strain on the resistors which are already the weak link.

Re: Consequences of Resistor Cart At Slow Speeds
There is considerable heat generated from making this conversion and running slow. The coils will glow red hot if used at low speed for extended periods of time. Stay out of the tall dry grass with this cart I think it may be a fire danger?
