Cart Stops then goes
1999 Club Car DS, 48v, 6" Lift, 22x11-10 4ply Carlise Trail Master tires, GE D380 motor.
I just lifted the cart. Its been in the woods twice now since the lift. The cart will be going fine, then it will stop. When I push pedal, it will seem like it wants to go forward, but doesnt. I have to let it sit for a few minutes, then it will go fine again. Im not like racing through the woods or something, or trying to over do it, going over a few logs and whatnot. When it stopped, I touched the motor, and it wasnt red hot or anything. Could it be over heating? When the cart stopped one time I took a pic, to kinda show the terrain or whatever..... |

Re: Cart Stops then goes
I have a 99 that was doing the same thing, it got worse over time and we would have to tap the main solenoid with something and it would take off again. A short time later my controller went up in smoke, lucky it wasnt a fire. looking forward to hear what everyone says the problem/fix is.

Have you checked the voltage on your batteries before you drive it? As you are driving? And after it stops?
I have been experiencing similar problems, and it is either my controller getting to hot or my batteries don't have enough amp/hr to take the draw. |

Re: Cart Stops then goes
22" tires will put a pretty good load on a stock controller. With the info you gave and the photo of your nice cart, I'm going to guess the controller is getting overloaded. If you can, just give the heat sink a feel when you experience the problem. If it's hotter than you can hold your hand on comfortably, that is most likely your problem. When a controller is rated for amps, it's actually a duty cycle ( like a welder ). It can put out 250amps for 5min - 200 for 15min and so on. Honestly, I would be looking at a controller, solenoid, and cable upgrade to do what you want trouble free!

Re: Cart Stops then goes
Huntmaster- i have checked the batts and they are good
Simple man - my son and i went out tonight to see if the cart would malfunction.......it did. Although the controller was warm it wasnt too hot for me to hold my hand on. This was the one and only time it did it tonight. Im not too familiar with controllers, how do i know if its stock? |
