Looking for fist cart and need some advice

Like the title says, I am looking for my first cart and need some advice. I am wanting a Precedent and it will be used at my local country club just for golf. I have been reading on here all that I can and see that everyone recommends the 6-8V setup vs the 4-12V batteries. I was just at my local Club Car dealer today and they told me that the 12V batteries were fine and that the 8V was mainly for golf courses so they could get 3 full rounds out of the cart before recharging. I inquired about the battery tray update to use 6-8V batteries and they told me that they were in the $500 range and I shouldn't waist my money on that if I buy an older cart. Most of the used carts that I am finding are either 2005-2006 models with 2009-2011 batteries or 2009-2010 with the original batteries. Am I better off getting the newer cart with slightly older batteries even though they are a little more money? Also, the only change I was planning on making right off the bat was some 12" wheels with lo-pro tires, but would I be better using that money and getting an even newer cart with newer batteries and waiting on the wheels?

Also, I found a place that has some off lease course cars. Is there anything in particular that I should check out/watch for on these? Last 2 questions....for now...I test drove a couple at the dealer and they were pretty nice, but is there anyway to increase the torque relatively cheaply? I drove one on speed setting 4 and the speed was fine, I would just like a little more snap off the line. Would heavier cables make a difference?

It all depends what you want out of the cart? Are you going to play multiple rounds of golf? Then I wouldn't get the 4-12volts, but if you are going to use the cart to piddle around the neighborhood on concrete then the 4-12v will work just fine.

If properly maintained, is the life span of the 12v batteries as long as that of the 8v?

The average useful life of a set of 12v is about 3 yrs, 4yrs for 8v, and 5 yrs for 6v ...... anybody see a pattern?

Your mileage may vary, I'm not going to debate individual results. These are statistics compiled buy my battery distributor over thousands of sets of batteries in all makes and models during the last 15 yrs.
