A few questions about upgrade !
Hello everyone !
I made a purchase from ScottyB on some new cables, FnR switch, solenoid and controller :) to upgrade my first ever cart a 98' CC with 4x4 kit on it. I first would like to say thanks to him for his help and great customer service very fast and the products looked excellent !! All in all the change out went pretty easy but as of now the cart is still a no go :( It had a few wires that were connected on the original solenoid that Scotty did not show in his diagram and I went ahead and installed them on the new solenoid. Was hoping someone here could give me a hand before I have to start bugging Scotty again !! lol I have gone over everything twice and have not been able to locate the problem but feel it is something minor (or I hope). This being my first cart I am kinda lost as to were to begin trouble shooting any help would be appreciated. I get a battery charge indication on the meter when the key is turned on, buzzer when I go to reverse and I can hear the throttle switch "click" when I push the peddle but that is it. No solenoid click, motor buzz or attempt to move.....Nothing Ideas or where to start ? Thanks !!! |

Re: A few questions about upgrade !
I think you are looking in the right area. The diode is polarity sensitive. The banded end goes towards the positive solenoid activation wires... usually red or white.
I always get suspicious when I see red and green wires going to the same terminal as traditionally red and green are used to indicate + and - respectively... I think you are going to have to sort those 'extra wires' out and see whats going to what there? |

I think you are going to have to sort those 'extra wires' out and see whats going to what there? It takes only one + and one - wire at the small terminals to activate the solenoid and send power to the controller. (typical in any cart) All the other small wires there are using the solenoid posts as a junction terminal. One additional wire on the + side may go to the controller #1 post to turn the controller on... |

Re: A few questions about upgrade !
Ok I have checked the wiring of all new components and printed off the wiring detail from the sticky and have gone through it NOT finding anything wrong what so ever !! Hmmmmm :(
As of now the only thing I am not able to find in the wiring schematic is this device here Can anyone tell what this is and what purpose it serve's and perhaps a wiring detail ? Also is there a schematic somewhere that tells me what voltages I should have at "A" and at "B" when a function is completed and so forth ? For instance when I turn the key on I should have ???? volts ______ and when you push the throttle you should have ?????? volts _______ ............... Clear as mud ??? lol Thanks for the help in advance :) |

Re: A few questions about upgrade !
The diode is backwards. See the little silver stripe on the center? That's the positive side. You've got it on the post with the yellow wire which is negative ground to the OBC. Spin it around and replace your microswitches if they're blown. They usually are after this happens. Probably two of them. The one in the V-Glide or Potentiometer, whichever you have. Possibly an MCOR if it's been converted, and the first one on the F&R switch (The one closest to the front of the car) If you hear an audible click when you flip them they're probably ok, but definitely check them. Once you've spun the diode around you should be good to go.
The photo you show in your last post is not going to be included in the wiring schematic. It's a 16Volt to 12 Volt reducer for your headlights. There's a single wire coming out of one end with a ring terminal with a 5/16" stud. Hook this to B- post of controller. The other side has two wires coming out of it, both with female blade style connectors. Hook them both to the ground block. It should be pop riveted to the body support directly behind where the driver's legs would sit while driving. All of your 12 volt accessories will ground to this block. Keep that in mind in the future. They will draw power from the positive post of battery #5. (Batteries 1-6 numbered with battery#1 being main positive and battery#6 being main negative.) |

Re: A few questions about upgrade !
Glad it worked man. For those following the thread, he had the diode on the solenoid hooked up backwards, reversed it and cart didn't run. Prior to the upgrade the car quit running. I suspected a bad grounding circuit in the OBC so we bypassed it and it worked. No way to tell if it was the initial cause for the car not running or if it was fried due to the reversed diode. Either way, it's been figured out and is soon to be fixed.
