I don't think just the gears is gonna get you to 40 without adding some voltage. What motor do you have?

I have an altrex 400 amp controller, plum quick assassin motor, 2 gauge cables, HD solenoid and f/r switch. It is on a 2000 CC DS series cart. I topped out at 35 MPH and have plenty of torque for pulling hills. I think if I had gone with a 500 amp controller I could have got into the low 40 MPH range. The folks at plum quick are a wealth of knowledge and really great to work with. Give them a call and tell them what your goal is and I bet they can get you there. Keep us posted I'm curious how your project comes out.

A bigger controller will only increase the torque not the speed.
