Question 86 club cart has 3 12V batts, is this OK?

I bought an 86 Club Cart ds and it has 3 deep cycle 12v marine batteries. Is this OK? Will it hold a charge for an extended time or should i replace with 6 6V batteries? Please Advise. The cart is 36Volts.

Thanks,

Fipps

It will work, but you won't run as long. And you will shorten the battery life of those batteries.

Thanks. Any idea of how long they will last on a charge and total life span?

Impossible to say exactly without knowing the type and amperage capacity of the 12v batts.

The cart motor runs on amperage. You have 50% fewer batteries with (my guess) less amperage capacity each compared to the original batts. SO run time could be reduced by 60-70% best case scenario. Original run time was 100 minutes of actual peddle time.
Many other factors play into the equation... bigger tires? Hills? Added weight? Starting not GC batteries? = Subtract more time. Hope this helps, Scotty

if you can afford it do yourself a favor and put 6 volt batteries in it maybe you can sell the 12 volts to help pay for the others...................................

I have these marine batteries in my cart right now and they work well for me. These are really large batteries though, as you can see. My suggestion is to use your cart and then you can make the decision. I don't know what size your batteries are, but if they don't give you the range you need, sell the 12V ones ( every boater wants troller batteries now ), and get the 6v.
