battery melting
put new batteries into my 81 club car. charged properly.went for short ride.1/2 way back battery melted at positive end . did the same thing last year on older batteris. 2nd battery from negative side.I am now 130 dollars poorer. any suggestion as to why. Thank you for any help you may have. I greatly appreciate the help in the past and future.

Sounds like the cable that connects that terminal may have some hidden damage, and is trying to pass current through too small a conductor (broken strands).. and is getting extremely hot.. assuming the connections are clean..
I've had issues before where a battery cable was corroded underneath heat shrink, and could not pass enough current to power the starter and the direct DC ignition... though that manifested itself in a no-spark condition, rather than causing a terminal meltdown.. I would replace that cable, or re-terminate it. |

yes a bad cable or loose cable will cause this, but there is a fix if it only melted the lead post.

thanks for your help. Used your fix. had melted a little bit into plastis but with JB weld seems good

I had a battery terminal melt like that on a new battery and the place took it back and replaced it for me. (This was Advance Auto Parts) Autocraft GC6 Battery. May be worth a try........
