Default New batteries charging question

I broke down and bought 4 new 12v batteries this week. About 7 pm last night I plugged up the charger and it pegged out to 15. This morning about 7 am I noticed it was still charging and the meter was down to about 5. Is it normal for it to charge this long? I played 27 holes of golf today and it ran strong all day. When i plugged it up to charge it pegged out again at 15. Is this okay?

. . . yes . . . new batteries are not necessarily fully charged . . charging cycles can run up to 12-15 hours . . charger will shut off automatically at about 16 hrs . . last few hours of charge cycle can be at 5 amps/60+ volts as charger attempts to equalize battery pack . . .
