Question 1984 36v Club Car DS won't go forward or reverse

Hi Folks, We had been driving the golf cart back and forth to our community swimming pool when suddenly yesterday when we got ready to come home the cart wouldn't move. I hear the clicking sound as it usually makes when I turn the key on and push the accerator down but it just sits there. Lights work and my battery gauge shows fully charged. Just to make sure I charged it all night last night but it still won't go. I have pulled on every cable I can find on the batteries, and wires going to the motor and everything seems to fine there. The serial number for my cart is A811621245.

Anyone out there had similar issues and solved them?

Thanks for any help you can give me.

84 should be 5 solenoid resistor cart so you might be hearing speed solenoids clicking........your master is the one furthest left drivers side and does not have a resistor coil mounted to it........you need to see if its working...........jack rear up and put a jumper on the large post of that solenoid then turn key on put in gear and press pedal if wheels spin replace it.......if not then its the microswitch in the silver box that activates it............................

Question Re: 1984 36v Club Car DS won't go forward or reverse

Hey Shadowman,

I know nothing about carts as we've only had this one about 6 months with absolutely no probs till now. I have a neighbor over helping me with your advice and we just wanted to make sure we were doing this right.

We found the correct post but what do we connect the otherside of the jumper to? I assume it's the battery but do we put it on the neg or pos side.

Thanks again for your help!!

no no no jump the large post on solenoid......get either a peice of cable or heavy wire and one end to a large top post of solenoid and the other end to the other large post post..... your just creating a bridge so to speak and iof solenoid is bad that will let you know..............but both ends of wire are going to the solenoid large posts no where else..............be careful you will get a little sparkage don,t freak out............................................... .

We figured it out and it worked! We took the microswitch off and found that one of the metal contacts wouldn't click like the others so we assume that's the problem. If you think differently please let me know.

Thanks for your help!!!

where was the microswitch? are you saying you jumped solenoid and it worked? if so replace that solenoid.....the microswitches for solenoids are in the silver box bolted to frame by left front battery..............there are 5 micros in there..............................

We found the microswitch box mounted in the battery department on the wall facing the front of the cart and disconnected the battery from it. Then we took a small flat head and tested each of the microswitches and they all made a clicking sound but one which was the last one to the right. I got the part number for it and bought one on ebay for $4.00. When we jumped the solenoid we had it jacked up and the wheels turned with no problem. Should we replace the solenoid as well? You have been such a big help!!
