1997 Club Car charging problem
I have a 1997 Club Car and charged the batteries twice this year and now the charger will not turn on. I cleaned all the battery connections, the charger works with other club cars, I tried another working charger and it would not charge, the fuse in the gray wire is O.K. The batteries still have a charge and the cart will run. What can I try next to get the charger to turn on?

Re: 1997 Club Car charging problem
I checked with the local Club Car dealer and they do not think it is the OBC. They said to check all connections which I have done and they look O.K. They did not think it was the charging recepticle. The OBC is rather expensive. Is there any way to check it to determine if it is bad? or does anyone have any other ideas?

Re: 1997 Club Car charging problem
There is a way to jumper out the relay in the charger which bypasses the OBC . . if charger turns on with jumper in place, OBC is bad . . . search forum threads for method . . there is even a pic showing how to do it . . but remove jumper wire when testing is completed . . . .
EDIT: See my post #2 in this thread: http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...r-charger.html |

Re: 1997 Club Car charging problem
. . yep . . if 48v cart and pack voltage below 38v, charger will not turn on . . assuming pack voltage is above 38v, the charger relay bypass will tell if OBC is not telling charger to turn on requiring OBC replacement . . .

Re: 1997 Club Car charging problem
If car runs, pack voltage is NOT too low. Plug charger into wall, plug charger into cart. Get a jumper wire with an alligator clip on both ends. Pull the yellow fuse holder apart and leave the fuse on the receptacle side of the wire. Put one side of the jumper wire to Main negative battery post, one side to the end of the buss fuse that you left exposed. Charger relay should click immediately when this connection is made. If it clicks, replace OBC. This proves that your car is capable of turning on your charger relay using all of your existing wire connections but when hooked up normally your OBC is not telling the charger to turn on. If it doesn't click, you've got a wiring issue somewhere.
